My family loves crisp munchies. So Potato chips is like a total favourite.
But I am always worried about the calories they have . So anything baked catches my attention real soon .
These crackers can be made in a lot of variations. Instead of the Pizza seasoning , you can go with the desi masalas .
If you are a garlic lover , you can add mashed roasted garlic pods.
Chaat masala , Peri peri spice or even some cheese powder ( Has to be sprinkled after baking ) work equally well .
If you want to make them eggless, Skip the egg wash , instead give a milk wash. Works just fine.
You need:
1+1/2 cups Flour
¼ tsp salt
1+1/2 tbsp sugar
A Pinch of Baking soda
1tsp roasted cumin powder
2-3 Pinch Garlic powder Or Pizza Seasoning
80 gms Butter, cold, cubed
½ cup or a little more buttermilk.
1 egg , beaten
Sesame seeds , chilli flakes or Pizza seasoning for sprinkling.
How to :
Preheat oven at 180 degree celcius.
Sieve all the dry ingredients in a bowl . Add cold cubed butter to it and rub your hands till it resembles bread crumbs.
Make a well in the centre and pour the buttermilk . Mix using a spatula. Don’t overmix . Only until the liquid is combined.
On a baking paper , Sprinkle some flour , and put the buttermilk dough over it. Shape it into a square . Sprinkle some more flour and cover it with another sheet of baking paper .
Chill it for atleast an hour. Better if more. Divide the dough into two . Keep one portion in the fridge and work with one outside.
With a rolling pin , roll out the dough evenly into a thin sheet . Quickly, before the butter melts .
Give it a nice egg wash , covering it properly.
Sprinkle the seasonings you like . Be generous. Prick the dough sheet with a fork a few places so that it doesn’t fluff up.
Move it to a baking tray along with the paper . Bake for about 20-25 mins or till golden.
Break it into shards unevenly .
Serve with a dip of your choice.
The dip in the picture is something I whipped up quickly. Its whisked yogurt with a touch of Ketchup , some garlic , Oregano and chopped onions.
It serves as a great snack to munch on instead of the usual deep fried chips or nachos. Do give it a try.
Bon Appetit !
